We tried out Carnations for the first time this year. I am loving them! The first few that bloomed were baby pink and also a few in such a bright pink they could rival a flamingo with their intensity. Now, I am very curious what other colors they will popping open in the next few days. I think it is neat that their stems are a more bluish-grey-green compared to most of the other John Deere style greens that frequent the garden. Look at the last of these four pictures and you will see that the buds are about to burst open and there will be many colors to go around!
Another pretty addition to our current variety pack is called Catanche Blue. The buds look so dry and straw-like you might think they they are about to shrivel up and blow away, then suddenly they burst open and are a beautiful deep royal (nearly purple) with little tiny flecks of yellow and white in the center. What a show!
Last but certainly not least, we have delicate bunches of peach, pink, yellow, and magenta Millifolium flowers which are filling out nicely this week. I like to compare this plant to cauliflower, in the way that it is a single stem with a crown of petite florets of miniature blooms at the top. While that may not sound to appeasing too the your taste buds, it will do wonders for your bouquet. Many people walk by this plant and don't give it the proper respect. However, those that slow down for a moment and pick a few stems are always pleasantly surprised and rewarded by the vibrant contrast these teeny little buds will add to your bouquet!
We hope you will come out and see each of these for yourself and take some home to grace your house with a splash of summer color.
